What did ya Think?
Well Roscoe and I just got back from another GREAT Paw Fest. Oh, the free treats and doggy ice cream and the hot dogs for me. Hundreds of dogs and the people who live with them. Nice to see all the regulars and all the "pilgrims" who are discovering the best damn dog park we've ever been to. It always amazes me how so many dogs can be running free and so little trouble. I heard a couple growling matches but saw no fights or anything close to one.Big thanks to Velvet (winner of the longest tail competition) and Jim, Judy and Kyra for helping hand out the fliers for our website here. Hope to see all the new bowwowers back sometime.

We, too, had a great time at the Pawfest! Tucker, our cavalier king charles spaniel, passed his Canine Good Citizen test. What a great idea to have them there! I've always wanted to do that with him as a first step towards pet assisted therapy, but had just never gotten around to it. They were there. I paid the ten bucks and Tucker, although somewhat distracted since he would rather have been running around greeting the other dogs, passed the test. We are very proud. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat to find this site. We live within walking distance of the Beach. Lucky us, huh?
We took 2 of our dogs to the Paw Fest 2008 today. This was the first time that we have ever been to Bow-Wow Beach and we Loved it! We did encounter a problem with another dog though. This is what happen...We called our dog, Oliver, and another Oliver was following us. This Golden Retriever was 10 and was clearly very old, went over to sniff another dog who was a pit-bull mix. The other dog then bit the golden in the neck and had no intention of letting go. My boyfriend then grabbed the retriever to get the pit off it and the owner just stood there not doing anything. He had to yell for him to pull his dog off. I think that there needs to be restrictions of what breeds of dogs are allowed to roam free in the park. If it would have been a smaller dog with not as much skin or hair it would have been seriously hurt. The Pitt had to have its mouth pried open to let go. This dog was clearly aggressive and did not need to be roaming free in the park where he can seriously hurt another dog. Needless to say we left right after that! Something needs to be done!
ReplyDeleteBut other than that, we LOVED the park and plan to go back soon!
Paw Fest was a lot of fun for us and, particularly, for our 9 month old German Shepherd, Lulu. Lulu passed the Good Citizen test with flying colors and spent the rest of the afternoon running, sniffing, swimming and playing with the 100's of other dogs on the beach yesterday.
ReplyDeleteAs for Marianne's comment that some breeds should be restricted, I completely disagree. We're regulars at Bow-Wow Beach and I've seen several Bull terrier mixes at the park and we've never had a problem. Dogs sometimes play rough -- nipping, snarling and knocking each other over. What looks to us like fighting is playtime for the pups. If things do get out-of-hand, there are plenty of owners who call for a time-out. If you keep an eye on your dog as well as other dogs, you'll have no problem at the Beach.
Commenting back to Mark...
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with different breeds of dogs, but if it is going to be aggressive and bite down on a dog and not let go, then yes there is a problem. As far as the owners go, yes most are responsive to their dogs, but when your dog is hurting another dog and making him whine and yelp and the owner just stands there doing nothing and has to be yelled at to get their dog off. Then yes I have a problem. I believe that any dog owner would agree with me. The Pitt was biting so hard on the Golden that it lost a tooth! That is not playing that is being aggressive.
I would like to thank everyone for being so great at PawFest 2008 - two legged and four legged! It was a great time, and for the most part - except the whole passing out fliers gig (I talk too much and then forget that I'm supposed to be educating the people I'm talking to about this great blog spot)- JUST KIDDING!
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun watching the dogs and their people both inside the park and outside at the booths. Can't wait to see all the new pictures - I took my camera, but was so busy laughing and talking that I didn't take one!
Also, I don't know if "Frankie" or his female friend that attended will read this or reply, but it was such a pleasure to meet him, and he was so sweet and excited about all the dogs...and kudos to the woman that allowed him to walk her dog...his face was absolutly alight when he was doing it.
