I just wanted to comment on aggressive dogs at the beach. Owners should not leave their dogs unattended. We were at the beach today with our golden and another dog was biting and growling at our dog. The owner was not with the dog so we had to take care of it ourself. This dog was also seen being aggressive towards other dogs and in one instance was forcing another dog under the water. It's a shame when irresponsible owner's endanger our pets, when we are all there just to have fun.

There's a sign stating that aggressive dogs must be immediately removed from the park. If several owners present a common front to the owner of the aggressive dog the owner will surely leave.
ReplyDeleteI was actually there one day and had a similar thing happen with a Golden Retreiver. He actually was running around humping my dog I continuously was after him to stop and his owners did nothing, finally when I was playing ball wiht my dogs he swam out and started humping my dog in the water, pulled her under twice and I had to go out and get her. The owner put the dog on a leash took him to someone else and the dog was immediatly removed from the leash again, I was less than thrilled. Thankfully the park is big enough that we went to the other side and all was well.
ReplyDeleteI think some owners are overly sensitive to the way dogs behave with each other. They are animals, they play roughly with each other. There can be growling and no harm done. It is my experience that dogs will be dogs, they get a little rough and run off to play with another dog. The owners freak out as if the dog is a child being hurt, i really don't think that is the case.
ReplyDeleteI think it's also kind of hard to keep up with an active dog at bow wow beach. My dog runs so fast when we are there, i keep an eye on her, but I am not right next to her the whole time.
ReplyDeleteI agree for the most part with both of the Oct 12 comments. Dogs can play roughly at times. We have 2 that are rescues. We began taking them to the park as soon as we became familiar with their personalities. They love to run and it is hard to keep up at times. We are always on the move behind them and keep them in sight. Some dog owners who may have less energetic dogs don't like having very playful dogs come up to them. My dogs bow, bark once, spring forward a bit and tap the other dog on the shoulder when they want to play. A few owners have done things to scare our dogs off thinking they are aggressive. They're not, they are just playing. But I understand that when someone has a less energetic or less physically fit dog they may not relate to dogs who are outgoing and active. There will always be differences in dogs just as there are in people.
ReplyDeleteI must say that we have a great park for our dogs, we all need to remember that! When you bring your dogs to the park, remember they will be in contact with other dogs there, I have had other owners push my dog away from theirs. My little dog trying to "introduce" herself to another dog, doesn't mean she is going to hurt them in any way! They are there to socialize with others, if you want private time, keep them at home! We love visiting the park! Even though the weather is a little chilly, the dogs sure don't mind!
ReplyDeleteKEEP your little dogs in the little dog area please! I had an issue with a woman with a small dog. She did not want my bigger dog by hers but she was NOT in the small dog area.
ReplyDeleteOnce when i was there, a man was playing fetch with his dog, my dog was very interested in also playing fetch and kept trying to get the toy the man was throwing. this man eventually HIT my dog, saying "no" right in front of me. It did make my dog stop, but i was so shocked that he would hit my dog!! Like someone else said, if you don't want your dog coming into contact with other dogs dont go to bow wow beach.
ReplyDeleteMy two dogs are both rescues and they are part pit bull. I have noticed how discriminated against this breed is. If either one of my dogs get the least bit over active, I am getting dirty looks at the beach. I think it's so sad that this poor breed has been singled out like this. They are the most loving sweet dogs. They are not killers just because of their breed.
